Colombo Port is the rapidly growing maritime hub of the South Asian Region. Cargo originating from and destined to Europe, East and South Asia, the Persian Gulf, and East Africa is conveniently and efficiently connected through the Colombo Port.


The Colombo Port is primarily a container port. It ranks among the top 25 ports globally. It is renowned as one of the busiest container ports, with an annual handling capacity of approximately 7 million TEUs. The port processed 7.25 million TEUs in 2021 and 6.86 million TEUs in 2022. IN 2023 the Port handled 6.951 Million TEUs with traffic as a result of traffic disruptions in the Red Sea.


Considerable investments have been made for infrastructure development to increase Port capacities and enhance its capabilities as one of the main Transshipment Hubs in Asia. Colombo post has 5 major terminal facilities and a conventional berth operated by private or government operators.

Port of Galle is known to serve as a convenient service hub for vessels navigating the main East to West shipping route with minimum deviation.
